The À La Glow Journal
A woman came to my market table because a friend described a body butter so well that she had to find it. That is the kind of skincare discovery I believe in.
Built to Be Found
Last month, a woman walked up to my table at a local market, looked me dead in the eyes, and said, “My friend told me I had to find you.”
She did not know my name. She did not remember the brand name. But her friend had described the texture of the body butter, the way it smelled, how her skin felt three days later, and that was enough. She came looking.
That moment stuck with me because it says everything about how À La Glow was built to be found. Not through an algorithm. Not because some influencer held a jar at a flattering angle for six seconds. Because someone she trusted put something on her skin, loved it, and could not stop talking about it.
There is real evidence behind that instinct. In BrightLocal’s 2026 survey of 1,002 U.S. adults, 49% said they trust online reviews as much as personal recommendations. The important part for me is not the race between a review and a referral. It is that people still look for someone else’s actual experience before they buy.1
You Can't Smell a Screenshot
Here is the thing no one in skincare wants to say out loud: you cannot experience a product through a screen. You cannot feel whether a balm is silky or waxy. You cannot tell if a scent is going to settle into your skin like a whisper or hit you over the head.
You also cannot ask an Instagram ad, “Hey, will this work with my rosacea?” You can ask me about the ingredients, the feel, and how I would think through the choice. I will give you a straight answer, not a diagnosis. If you are managing rosacea or another persistent skin concern, a board-certified dermatologist should be part of that conversation.
I formulate every product in the À La Glow line. I know what is in each jar because I put it there: every botanical, every butter, every intentional ingredient selected for a barrier-first routine. When you show up in person, I can walk you through what may suit your skin and, just as importantly, what may not. That is not a sales pitch. That is respect for your skin and your wallet.
This is why I love market days and why I keep showing up. The conversations are real. The recommendations are honest. And when someone smells the Restore Balm for the first time and their whole face changes, that is something a product listing can never replicate.
“I did not build À La Glow to go viral. I built it to be worth finding.”
Built on Trust, Not Trends
À La Glow does not chase trends. I am not reformulating every season because some ingredient went viral on TikTok. The line is waterless, small-batch, barrier-first, and intentionally simple because not every routine needs twelve steps. Keeping it simple does not mean careless. The American Academy of Dermatology recommends gentle, non-abrasive cleansing and moisturizer when skin is dry or itchy.3
That skinimalist philosophy is why referrals mean so much to this brand. When someone sends a friend to find me, they are not just recommending a product. They are saying, “I trust this person and what she makes.” That kind of trust does not come from yelling louder. It comes from making something good, telling the truth about it, and being available when people have questions.
Trust is not a soft little side note to a purchase. Edelman’s 2025 Brand Trust report found that 80% of people trust brands they use, and it placed trust alongside price and quality as a purchase consideration. That tracks. You do not need a hard sell when a product earns a place in someone’s actual life.4
And it works both ways. I trust my customers to know their own skin better than any quiz or algorithm. My job is to make something genuinely good, tell you exactly what is in it, and let you decide. No pressure. No fake urgency. No “you need this or your skin will fall off” energy.
