How to turn your Evening Skincare Routine into a Self-care Ritual

When we take care of ourselves, we are practicing self-care.  With a few tweaks, our skincare routine can become a fabulous self-care session.  Isn’t it the best feeling in the world to finally sit down after a long day and do something for yourself?

Remember, skincare doesn’t have to be complicated. You have to choose a routine that suits your needs, be it a mere three steps or a complex ten-step routine. Whatever you choose, let’s make it something we look forward to doing each and every day!  Here are some tips on how!

First things first, brew a nice cup of hot tea or a cool infused water. Light your favorite scented candles. Then you can begin by removing your makeup and sunscreen using a cleansing balm or cleansing oil. These are super gentle on the skin. You can massage them in to break up all the makeup and oil residue. Follow this up with a gentle cleanser that suits your skin type. You can use the PMD Clean Pro tool to take the cleansing one step further. It is a rechargeable device with tiny grooves on the surface. After you wet your face and apply the cleanser, you can use the PMD Clean Pro to gently massage it onto your pores to get rid of all the dirt and grime in your pores.  I really like using the PMD with my oil cleanser.  The silicon doesn’t break down with the oil, and it makes my skin feel oh so nice!

Use your favorite serum to add hydration to your face and follow it up with a thick moisturizer. You can use natural oils like rosehip oil or jojoba oil to seal in all your products. This is the best time to incorporate a jade roller or gua sha tool into your skincare routine for a soothing face massage. Face massages are amazing for lymphatic drainage, lifting your face muscles, and general relaxation.

Your nighttime skincare routine is the best time to treat any ongoing skin problems that you may have. This can include acne breakouts, fine lines, and wrinkles, dryness, etc. For this purpose, you can include spot treatments and antioxidants like vitamin C and A derivatives into your routine. They will help brighten your hyperpigmentation, fight the aging process, as well as get rid of sun damage.

Reserve at least one evening per week for the application of masks and peels to help rejuvenate your skin. Clay masks that contain bentonite and kaolin are beneficial for people with oily and acne-prone skin. If you have dry and flaky skin, then go for hydrating sheet masks containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides. You can opt for exfoliants and peels to remove dead skin cells from your face and give it an amazing glow.

You can opt for a bath at night before you do your skincare, surrounded by the aroma of your scented candles and perhaps reading your favorite book.

Once your routine is complete, put on your most comfortable pajamas and head off to bed. Remember to use a silk pillowcase to protect your hair and your skin. You can spritz some lavender essential oil mist to calm your senses and get the best sleep ever.

Self-care is important. Your skin, body, and soul deserve love and rest. So be sure to take out time for yourself at the end of the day. Self-care rituals are an absolute must!
