The Rich Goodness of Cocoa Butter

Cocoa Butter comes from the fat of cocoa beans, mainly found in Western Africa. The use of Cocoa Butter dates back several thousand years because of its diverse nature. Solidified Cocoa Butter has a discreet chocolaty scent and spreads easily over your skin.

Let’s learn more about it’s benefits.

  • Cocoa Butter as a rich moisturizer: With a myriad of fatty acids like oleic acid, linoleic acid, palmitic acid, etc., Cocoa Butter proves to be an excellent moisturizer. It acts as an emollient such that it locks in the moisture of the skin by forming a protective film over it, which prevents water loss and softens the skin. This will aid in maintaining your skin’s firmness.

  • Cocoa butter as a treatment for skin issues: For people suffering from skin problems like eczema and extremely dry skin, Cocoa Butter can save the day! Since it is so rich and dense, it will alleviate these skin problems without leaving your skin feeling greasy. It absorbs quite quickly into the skin, so it is great to use if you’re on the go.

  • Cocoa Butter for the body: People often suffer from flaky and scaly skin on their bodies. Creams and lotions containing Cocoa Butter are ideal for these problems. You can use them after the shower when your skin is still damp. This will ensure that the Cocoa Butter gets absorbed super fast into the skin and leave it feeling smooth and moisturized. There are ongoing studies about the use of Cocoa Butter as an anti-aging agent and a surefire way to fade stretch marks. These claims are not yet backed up by science, though.

The Socioeconomic Side of Fair Trade Cocoa Butter

African women work tirelessly day and night to harvest Cocoa Butter from cocoa beans. Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter trade are their main source of income. When we buy directly from them, it paves way for their independence and empowerment.

Long-term contracts with multinational companies enable them to earn more, which allows them to improve their living standards. Including allowing them to send their children to school.  This gives these children  the possibility of brighter opportunities in their future.

Technological advancements have allowed these women to produce larger amounts in less time and meet the environmental standards of the trade.   It also allows these women to learn new skills which in turn allows them to earn stable incomes for their households.

Many companies, that support fair trade, have built wells, schools, and living spaces for these communities. This is a prime example of how helping someone can give you more in return. Here’s to enjoying the goodness of Cocoa Butter and helping communities do better!
